The Interior

The inside of Nocterra is very clean, spacious and has ample seating. There are several large tables for meeting with bigger groups as well as space at the bar and along the wall. They have at least 15 rotating taps of all their own brews! Guest taps can be nice, but only when the beer that the brewery is doing is not the best. I really like that Nocterra does a variety of brew styles so that they can keep all of their beers on tap, and that there should be something for everyone's pallet there. The inside has a nice feel to it, and everything you might expect or want from a tap room, but the beer garden is really what sets Nocterra apart from the rest!

The Exterior

The beer garden is a probably the best part about Nocterra, besides for the beer! It is a fairly large space with seating on the back patio of the building as well. It is a great place to sit by the fire and enjoy a cold one after work. They are also dog friendly, kid friendly, and family friendly. The lights the run through the garden provide a really cool atmosphere at night time. The fire pits were recently redone which is a nice touch. You will always find kids running around out here, as well as dogs! The brewery is also located right along the train tracks in Powell, so do not be surprised if you see a train come flying by while you are out here!

The Beer

You can read up on several different beers reviewed from Nocterra in the Drafts_Columbus section of the blog. A few things to note is that all of the beers from the brewery taste of high quality ingredients. There are several beers that are not normally in my wheel house of things that I like that I have tried here and really enjoyed. This to me just says that they understand what they are doing, and are thoughtful when crafting the flavor profiles of their products. The swell line are simply some of the best sours that I have ever tried. They make very tasty Hazy IPA's as well as some delicious coffee stouts. The sheer variety of beer that Nocterra produces should make it possible for everyone to find something that they like!

Noctoberfest

Ft. The Quasi Kings

Quaffing, live music, great beer.... what more could someone ask for? Nocterra just hosted their Noctoberfest event last Saturday which was a massively fun time! The quaffing tournament was just pure craziness, but I really want to play next year! The Noctoberfest beer was delicious and super drinkable, which was great for the quaffing tournament. They also booked The Quasi Kings for a performance. They are a nationally touring reggae band, from Columbus Ohio. The event was $20 which included a mug, and three free drink tickets. Combine with the musical performance this was an incredible offer. They had taps inside and outside which made getting beer smooth and easy, with hardly any wait time. They also let people use the mugs for their beers which was a great idea because you not only got a pint of any beer you chose, but the bar staff didn't have to clean any glassware, truly a win-win!

The final Verdict

This brewery was very carefully planned out, and it is exactly what the Powell community was missing. I have been in a lot of breweries where it seems like they just decided "lets start a brewing company" and they are not organized, the atmosphere is not good, and so on. Nocterra goes above and beyond in all of these categories, from the beer, to the location, the atmosphere even to how they handle their social media and merchandise. Although they have been around for about a year they are really the gold standard for what a brewery should be! Defiantly get out to this place if you have not yet been here! They are now offering 6 packs to go, as well as merch! If you go up to the Columbus Zoo for any of their holiday festivities, Nocterra should be a must stop destination on you trip!
